About Jmorris779

Jmorris779 started this conversation

Hi, I am married and have two kids, ages 2 and 3.  I recently got laid off from work due to a lack of work.  I have found another job, but I had to take a pay cut.  I am really in need of some help with my rent that is now 11 days overdue.  I get a check on Friday, but I still have my car payment, insurance, electric bills as well as the usually gas and food that this check also has to cover.  My rent is only 325, I think I can handle the late fees on my own.  My landlord has threatened to evict me and my family and we have no where else to go.  If anyone can help please respond.  We live in the Phoenix area.  I am an electrician, so if anyone needs any electrical work in exchange for assistance, I'm willing to trade.

in response to Starshine...   Thanks.  I'm still trying.  I'm waiting for my wife's bank statement to finish the application for modestneeds.  I'm starting to think it might be too little too late.  The late fees are getting out of control.  My 325 rent is up to 525 now I think.  I've been looking for a new apartment.  I can't stand the current one.  The landlord has been harrassing us at 9-9:30 at night for rent.  I have to get up at 3 something in the morning.   She told my wife she is a bad mother because we can't pay rent.  She hasn't fixed the air conditioner(in Phoenix people die without them).  It feels cooler outside than in.  It's 107 degrees now.  The tile floor was supposed to have been fixed.  It's a matter of time before someone needs stitches.  The light in the hallway doesn't work.  And, after a week of living there, I discovered that the laundry room key opened my front and back door...so everyone who lived there had a key to my apartment. Thank god I figured that out before someone else did.   I had to physically change the locks myself.  I wish I were in a more financially sound situation where I was current in rent and could sue.  There are a couple places we can go to get a food box, however, one is allowed once a month, the church up the street doesn't give much out and it's only allowed twice a month, and the third one is once yearly.  We missed out on Glendale CAP(a housing program) because the landlord refused to give us the 5 day notice when CAP had an open enrollment for a onetime rent pay.  She brought it by 2 days after.  Well, enough stress for this post.  I shall continue my search for help.  Once again, I thank you for your help.

For a list of food banks, soup kitchens and homeless shelters in Arizona. Call 866 3 hungry for food resources and they will give you some information for food banks but the above link that list food banks and soup kitchen as well as homeless shelters is the best..

I hope this helps some and I know it is hot in your state. I would contact the utility companies and see about low income help with utilities programs.

I know not all of Arizona has the number 211 you can call for information and help . You can try that number to see if it works iin your area for food resources and other information.

I need to open another window as I know senior citizien centers and cities have what they call cooling centers for those people who need to beat the heat. I would contact your city hall and senior center for information regarding those for your city..

I hope some of this helps

Good luck
